Much of it points to a 2N. But it looks to me like there is a lot of pre-2N stuff on it.

Numbers
I can't see any of the serial numbers. The only number is lower on the block- looks like N B28 1
Answer- OK, we've determined from the casting date on the block that this is an 8N engine made on February 2, 1948. And since there is no serial number, it was probably from an implement like a combine or baler. The magneto also points to an implement.

Hood and Grille
Post-41 grille, hood ornament definitely says "2N". Both are steel. Hinged battery cover
Answer: The Hood and grille appear to be a 1942 or later 2N.

The Dash
Key on dash right, starter on dash in high position, no red light, tranny dipstick on top
Ansdwer: Dash and steering column are 1939 or early 1940 9N. Also the transmission with dipstick on top appears to be 1939/1940 9N.

Brakes, Beam, and Carb
Brake pedals are the same on both sides. Carb/manifold is the short drop. Definitely I-Beams with Woodruffs
What's up with these wheels?
Hubs are the later type, but ar the steel wheels from Ford? They just don't look like other photos I've seen. Yes, I will get rid of the pavement protecvtor slicks some day.
Magneto/governor
The magneto looks totally wrong. It's a WICO XV6025. Sits on top of a big governor and it juts out the right side, barely clearing the hood. Governor is the later type with oil line.
